I don't see any plastic parts that are submerged in the water, and there is no discoloration on the inside to indicate a chemical reaction. The only gripe I have is the strange odor from the kettle. We use it several times a day and it always boils water very quickly and shuts off automatically when the water starts boiling. It doesn't appear to affect the taste of the water, but it's still a concern. I bought this because it's stainless steel, it looks nice and sturdy and it shuts off automatically. We've had it about a month and very pleased with it overall. It's not as bad now as it was at first.
I have been trying to return it, but the distributer requires a return authorization and, despite having requested one weeks ago and having sent them multiple emails, I have still been able to get this authorization from the company. I ended up buying the Breville Variable Temperature Kettle and it works beautifully and has absolutely no chemical smell. I bought this item based on the reviews and I was very excited when it arrived but, despite very few plastic pieces inside the unit, it has an awful chemical smell in the pot that did not go away after repeatedly washing, boiling with water, and boiling with water and vinegar. My advice is not to waste your time and money on this piece of junk that cannot even be returned.
This one has a cute retro look, but the features are what make it great. As luck would have it, our old kettle died shortly after, so I had an excuse to order one of these for myself. Perfectly designed in all ways. I ordered one of these for my sister and one for my daughter for Christmas. They both raved about the kettle. The removable top makes it easy to fill, the handle is positioned perfectly, and the on switch lifts up to turn on, so you less likely to turn it on by accident.
The lid is tough to remove, so I fill it through the spout. I love the retro look of it combined with the modern technology. I like the auto shut off-- no more burnt kettles or long-winded whistles. I love this kettle. I bought it to save money. The water heats up almost as fast as it takes to find a cup and saucer.
I paid 80. According to the review online, model # 685 would boil the water in a minute or less and it does not. for just a regular teapot, feel as if I was taken by you.
